Somali Community in Central Pennsylvania

About US

The Somali Community in Central Pennsylvania, a non profit organization, seeks to establish programs to aid Somali immigrants in overcoming obstacles in America as they seek to enhance their educational, employment and integration skills.

Somalis in America are mostly refugee immigrants from the east African country of Somalia. Somalia has been in a devastating and chaotic situation for 17 years of civil war that has destroyed the entire government institutions. Since the collapse of the former totalitarian regime of Siyad, Bare in 1990, there has been no other administration to rule the country. Because of the lawless, mayhem and indiscriminate killings of warlords, tribal conflict and gangs, most of the ethnic minorities and intellectuals have fled from the country. They have migrated to the surrounding countries like Kenya, Ethiopia and Yemen where they were confined in refugee camps. Luckily some of them have been resettled to third countries mostly the United States of America, Europe and Australia.
